ABOUT ALEX ADRIAN

Adrian Alexandra H. started writing music and entering composition contests by the age of 15. At 16 they were a finalist in Charlotte’s Blumenthal Performing Arts Music Composition Competition, which allowed them to play an original piece live in McGlohon Theater. After playing in different venues in Charlotte, Adrian was asked to play at several art galleries including the art gallery at Charlotte Catholic High School, a highly esteemed and prestigious school in the Charlotte area.

Adrian started their Music Theory degree in 2012 at Petrie School of Music. During the same year they were apart of a student organization called Musicians Helping Others (MHO) where they brought in the most contributions for their yearly busking charity event by playing their compositions across the city of Spartanburg. The organization was awarded “Busking for Soup” by the college for their efforts in charity. In 2013 they self recorded their first album with original songs and also composed music several times for a local freelance film director.

In 2015 Adrian led a small team to develop a video game demonstration in order to host a live “Let’s Play” event, where a student played the game demo and musicians, including themselves, would play music for the demo based on the decisions of the player.

They graduated in 2016 after giving a lecture on the basic history and understanding of video game music for the college. Throughout their time earning their first degree they had their compositions performed in some of the many recitals the school hosted. Right after graduating Adrian was contracted for a recording studio in Charlotte where they assisted in recording other artists and editing those recordings before being sent to the mastering technician. In 2017 they became a sound technician for a local church learning how to run live sound performances.

Now, Adrian is the top instructor at their local music store, where they teach guitar, ukulele, bass, piano, music production, and music composition. At the same time they are also working towards a second degree at Berklee College of Music, and are establishing themselves as a successful freelance composer for interactive media and film.

“The driving force that gives me a sense of meaning is creating music; Seeing music come to life. Not only does creating music give my life purpose it also gives me peace of mind that is much appreciated in the world today. It gives me the ability to be at one with myself as I’m living in this fast-paced society.

To live a fulfilling life, to be the person people see me as, seeing art being born and helping other artists to do the same are the inspiration behind my music. When I start a piece of music I don’t stop until it’s finished. If the music I wrote evokes emotion then I know it’s complete.

Since I’ve come from a classical background, I tend to mix in a lot of acoustic instruments in my music. However, I like to be open-minded to welcome new ideas and creations. I find that better quality art is born that way, instead of being rigid to other ideas or religiously sticking to your original idea. Letting the creations grow and guiding them along is the basic mentality I have when I’m writing music.”
